Kitchen Gardens

TIPS FROM OUR FRIENDS AT BLISSFUL GROWING

We talked to Kat, a kitchen garden expert who we are collaborating with on a current project. Here are her tips for an ideal kitchen garden setup.

Planting Space & Maintenance Time

  • Regular kitchen garden maintenance averages about 1 minute per square foot.

  • A kitchen garden does not look perfect year-round. There will be seasons when beds feel full and slightly overgrown, and other times when they appear sparse between plantings. That natural rhythm is part of a productive garden.

Washing & Harvest Station

  • A washing and harvest station is a functional space for rinsing and prepping veggies.

Potting Area

  • For the potting area, I recommend a simple working table with ample surface space for potting, seed starting, and general garden tasks.

Compost

  • Positioning your compost in a shady spot is essential for maintaining moisture and supporting healthy microbial activity.
