Glenfeliz “warmth”
This garden had magical roots. With old fruit trees and overgrown roses, you could tell that someone once loved this space and that the bones for a beautiful garden were there. The Spanish bungalow home had an existing dark and somewhat funky large, covered patio, which the clients wanted to preserve for dining outside on hot days, but wanted to update the style to be in line with their taste and newly stuccoed home. With the plans for a family down the line, they knew they wanted a little lawn space, and an area for a veggie garden was a must due to the client's green thumb and love for gardening.
With a converted garage to ADU the entire back portion of the property is part of an indoor/outdoor experience. The second half of the driveway was removed to soften edges and warm California Gold gravel underfoot rounds out the warm Spanish style color palette. We used Vego veggie beds, which complement the white stucco.
Arches were used for the patio with stucco pillars and a light wood floor to brighten up the entire space.
A mix of natives and transplanted original roses are planted on the property, with a shady native mix used along the fenced edge of the property and sun friendly natives for the front garden.
