Malibu Colony ‘Retreat’
This beach house garden was transformed from a dated, underutilized space into a front garden spa and a back outdoor gathering garden.
To complement the home's white, minimal-meets-beachside-cottage style, we used a combination of buff flagstone, whitewashed brick, and grey gravel. The planting palette highlighted the cottage feel of the site with a soft mix of white rose, purple sages, lavender, and blush pink rockrose.
The enclosed front garden was designed as an outdoor spa with a barrel sauna, outdoor shower, jacuzzi, and chaise lounges. The path to the front door became an entry courtyard flanked on either side with large pots and lemon trees.
Our clients love hosting folks to sit around their outdoor fireplace, so the back garden design centered on a large hearth. On either side of the fireplace are a dining space and an outdoor barbecue, with peripheral plantings to soften the garden's edges and add color.
